1972 was the 3rd body update - it remained GTV, got a 2L engine.

You could still get the GT Junior as well (but it kept the step-nose body style for a little longer). When the 2nd body style (flat nose) came out in 1968 (1969 in the US) with the 1750cc engine - the name was shortened to GTV (you no longer had a non-veloce trim). The Junior was the same car with the smaller 1300cc engine. The hot-carb version was Sprint GT Veloce. That green 71 GTV is up to $9K with 5 hours to go.Īre they all Giulia Sprints (which I assume means Giulia coupes), with either GT, GTV, GTC, GTA, or GTAm added on? What are the Juniors?ġ05 series cars started with the Giulia (sedan) and the got different monikers for trim/engines (ti, super). Hey, I just remembered that I still have the grille from my Berlina, it's on the wall in my garage: It was not a great winter car, the heater was pretty lousy, but it was such a riot to drive.

I drove it for 2 years, through 2 prairie Manitoba arctic winters, before it met it's demise against a pickup truck that ran a stop sign. Dad probably thought (correctly) it was more practical and likely more reliable than the older 1750 coupes, so the Alfa Berlina was my first car. At the end of that school year (April 1978) I found a newer 1974 Berlina 2000 that got support for the parental bridge loan, and I bought that. In first year university, I came "this" close on two different 1750 GTVs, but cash was the problem in mid school year. There was a GT Junior in our small town, 1300cc engine but otherwise identical to the GTVs, I loved seeing it go by. When I saw the GTVs I really fell for them. Other kids were into muscle cars mostly, if foreign cars it was Celicas or MGBs. Parallel life stories! I first noticed Alfas when I was in high school in the mid 70s, with the Spider. I came "this" close on two GTVs when I was in college, a 1750 and a 1600. Maybe one of my fellow ters will buy it and I can pick it up and drive it for a while for them while they arrange transport.Īny other GTV fans here? Post up, with other BaT GTVs to discuss, etc! I'm not in the market unless I were to sell the Italia, which isn't going to happen any time soon!, but this seems like a great deal on a fun Alfa that is 90% there. The video shows that it runs OK, but the oil pressure gauge and tachometer don't seem to be functional. As it happens, this car is right here in my home city of Calgary!Īs one of the comments mentions, the car is neither fish nor fowl right now - it can't be registered on the road in Alberta until it gets a working defroster, and we don't have a local race track to run it on until late next year. I happened to be browsing BaT today, and this one caught my eye: It's a 71 GTV with a rebuilt 2 litre, set up for racing or track days - with less than a day to go it's only at $6,150 bid, and it seems that bids and the price are being held back by questions about how easy it would be to import back into the US.

I was actually looking at GTVs 5 years ago when I realized that the best GTVs were nearly the price of driver quality Ferrari 308s, and that's when those got added to the considerations.īring-a-Trailer has had quite a few GTVs go through their auctions this year, and prices for the best ones are near or over $40K USD now!

I love the look of the Guigaro-styled body, the Alfa 4 cyl is full of character and sounds better than any other, and they are a blast to drive. BetweenMiatas mentioned these recently, might be looking at them, and I've always been a fan - it's about my favourite 4 cyl sports coupe ever.
